The Second Spanish Period came to an end as a result of the Adams-Onis Treaty which included a $5 Million payment to Spain for Florida.

Key events in the Second Spanish Period:
- Florida transferred back to Spain as a result of the Treaty of Versailles
- Incentives given to encourage settlement in Florida.
- Constitution Monument placed in the Plaza de la Constitucion in recognition of the Spanish Constitution of 1812. It was the placement of the monument that required the plaza to be formally named La Plaza de la Constitucion.
- Spain’s influence in the region declines and reluctantly a deal is made to transition Florida to the United States.
